MANUAL Inscriptions Of The Everyday – Exhibition
Damien Chwalisz was invited to be a contributing Artist in a SASA Gallery exhibition entitled ‘MANUAL inscritions of the everyday‘. This exhibition of architecture and design explores the concept of the manual – as dexterity, craft, handbooks and instruction.
Curated by Rachel Hurst (Senior Lecturer, AAD, UniSA) and Jane Lawrence (Program director, Interior Architecture, AAD, UniSA), the exhibition was prompted by the curators’ research in theories of the everyday.
Damien interpretation of the brief “MANUAL” was ‘MANUAL: reverse engineered‘. “If I were to build directly from the first sketch, I could perhaps describe the accident in section”
Damiens work explores the blurry (desired) foreground, the middle ground, the everyday, world as seen, and the cast image as fantasy, kneaded into foreground and middle ground to ‘find’ an otherness.
